our story:
The Pregnancy
We were so excited when we found out we were pregnant!  The pregnancy wasn't a total breeze, but overall
it wasn't bad.  The morning sickness kicked in really early, but waned by about 13 weeks.  We found out we
were having a girl at our first ultrasound at 18 weeks and were very pleased!  Tula threatened to come a
little early at about 28 weeks (a visit to the hospital put that to a stop).  She was very active and had hiccups
almost every day.  Mama gained about 40 pounds by the end, but managed to stay pretty limber.  Let's just
say she was thrilled to have the pregnancy end just shy of 39 weeks.  Tula arrived 10 days early.
The Birth
Labor began at about 12:30 a.m. on February 23rd.  It started off slow and Mama tried to sleep until about
6 a.m.  By noon, it was time to head for the hospital and it progressed from there.  The experience at the
hospital was great -- absolutely no complaints.  The birth was completely natural (no meds) and assisted
by Papa and Grandma Sonia.  Tula arrived after just 25 minutes of pushing.  In total, labor lasted about 23
hours.  Phew!  Grandpa Paul and Grandma Diana arrived just and hour and a half later to welcome Tula
into the world.
The Name
We chose the name Tula because of its origins.  Tula is both a Scandinavian name (spelled "Tuula") and a
Mexican name, linking it to ethnicities on both sides of the family.  We just liked Karinne...
